During the Business Meeting in Johannesburg on September 1st, 2014, the President Walter Maresch reports that thanks in large part to the activities and negotiations of E. Tillmanns an IMA archive has been established in Budapest.
In a letter of July 22, 2014, Gábor Csorba, Deputy Director General for Research and Collections, officially wrote to the IMA President that “it is my pleasure to declare that the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM) is open and willing to build out long term cooperation with the International Mineralogical Association on hosting the archive of IMA in Budapest in the HNHM”. The archive will be under the direction of mineralogist Gábor Papp, assisted by Annamária Kis.
Council has decided to rejuvenate its “Archives and History” subcommission with the Outreach Committee. G. Papp (Chair), A. Kis (Secretary) and E. Tillmanns (Vice-Chair) will be officers. Other interested colleagues are welcome, and Tamás Weiszburg (Budapest) as well as President-to-be S. Krivovichev have already indicated that they will be actively participating.
