Current Council Members

Council Members

The Council of the IMA manages the operations of IMA, and is governed by the policies set by the Business Meeting. In this way, the national societies who are members of the IMA control the work of IMA through the national delegates that they send to the Business Meeting.

The Council consists of an Executive Committee, two additional officers and five ordinary Councilors. All members of Council are elected by the Business Meeting and serve the entire IMA; they are not delegates of national societies.

The Executive Committee executes the general business of the IMA between the times of the Business Meetings, with the guidance of the entire Council membership. Council usually meets formally once or twice a year to officially record and decide on policies, but remains in continuous contact and discussion on all matters concerning IMA. If you have questions about the operation of IMA, please contact the Secretary. If you have questions about IMA policies, please contact the President.

Business Meetings

The IMA is governed by the Business Meetings held at every two years, alternating between the IMA held every 4 years, and another international mineralogical meeting such as EMC (European Mineralogical Conference). Two Business Meetings are held during a meeting.

Any National representative, Commission and Working Group of the IMA may propose business to be transacted at the Business Meetings. Such proposals must be sent to the IMA Secretary eight weeks before the meeting and will be included in the agenda.

The member societies send delegates to the Business Meetings. The delegates receive and review reports from the IMA Commissions, Working Groups and Council, and can implement new policies. The delegates at the Business Meeting elect the Council members, including the officers and the Presidents of IMA.

Minutes of recent Business Meetings are provided below.
