IMA Ph.D. Student Award 2026

The International Mineralogical Association PhD Student award is intended to honor and support outstanding students by providing them the opportunity to present their research at an international level, forge new collaborations and ideas, and further develop their career.

The award is intended to support participation in an international conference with a strong involvement of the IMA. IMA 2026 will be held in Nanjing, China, from 20 to 24 August, 2026 (https://ima2026.nju.edu.cn/).

Six young scientists will be selected in the 2026 call. Each awardee will receive a waiver of the meeting registration fee and 1,200 USD as partial support for the travel expenses.

Anyone who is enrolled in a full-time PhD program in mineralogy (or a closely related discipline), or graduated since September 2025, is eligible to apply. Applicants should provide a CV (including a list of publications), a letter of support from their advisor, and a cover letter detailing their PhD project and achievements, as well as explaining how this award would benefit their research and professional development. Nominations from PhD research advisors (containing the same supporting documentation as above) are also welcome. The submission of an abstract to the IMA2026 meeting is mandatory for the application to be valid.

Applications and nominations for 2026 should be submitted as a single PDF file to the IMA President, Prof. Dr. Eiji Ohtani (eohtani@tohoku.ac.jp) with a copy to the IMA Secretary, Prof. Dr. Hiroaki Ohfuji (ohfuji@tohoku.ac.jp) no later than March 31st, 2026.
