IMA Meetings
IMA Meetings
Every four years, IMA general meeting is hosted by one of the national member societies. The meeting provides a forum for mineralogists and related scientists from around the world to:
- Present and discuss the latest research in mineralogy and related fields.
- Exchange information and ideas across diverse subfields of mineralogy
- Conduct business meetings
- Conduct official meetings for IMA Commissions/Working Groups
- Participate in specialized, short courses and field excursions.

Report of IMA Meetings at EMC 2024 Dublin

During EMC 2024 in Dublin on 18-23 August, three IMA Council Meetings and two Business Meetings were held. All the meetings were held in a hybrid format with participants primarily in person and some in remote.
At the 1st Business Meeting, Has-Peter Schertl, IMA President reported the summary of IMA activities for the past two years since IMA 2022 Lyon including the current financial status of IMA, recent updates on commissions/working group and committees and the preparation for the next IMA meeting in Nanjing. In addition, some revisions of the IMA constitution and by-laws proposed by Council and the nominations for the election of Council Members were announced.
At the 2nd Business Meeting, the audit report of IMA’s financial accounts for the last two years was presented. Voting was held to elect new Council Members and Executive Officers, and national delegates who participated in person and online cast their votes (see the minutes of the meeting for the results of the vote). A vote was also taken for the revision of the IMA constitutions and by-laws, and the proposed changes were approved.

At the closing ceremony of the EMC, the IMA medal was presented by President Hans-Peter Schertl to Patricia Dove, 2022 IMA Medalist and then the steering wheel with the names of all the past presidents engraved on it was handed over from Hans-Peter to President-Elect Eiji Ohtani.
